The first vibrator I ever came across was in my female cousin's basement at the age of 13, when she showed me a little department store kit advertised for neck and shoulder massages. That's not what we used it for:) This was long before the first phallic shaped hard plastic model that hit the markets in the late 70s. I had to laugh when I saw vibrators in the health care aisle of a small town Walmart in Michigan last year. We've come a long way baby!
Is sexual independence, for either men or women, a preferable thing? Doesn’t that get in the way of what a loving relationship and sex life shared between a couple should be? Isn’t sex by definition something you share with another person, rather than do independent of the other?
Mirakulous, your comment is suggesting that vibrators are used independently from a partner. Vibrators are a common sex toy that couples use while being together, not only for the women's pleasure but increasingly for the man's pleasure as well.
I agree with you. My question (not so much comment) was rooted in the survey question, which I thought was in fact suggesting as you say. It asked whether a vibrator leads to sexual independence. And yes as you and I both agree vibrators are used by the couple to enhance their sexual experience together, it follows that they’re not a tool for sexual independence. If anything people should’ve answered overwhelmingly in the negative (if they agree with us).
I'll add to this Mirakulous, that I think vibrators are equally for solo and partnered pleasuring. Although they came into being as an accessory for the female body at first, male bodied people are starting to drop their insecurities and accept vibration as a multi-gendered enjoyment. :)
